BALLATER PRIMARY P5/6 SANGS

THE KEY I THE DEE

[By P5/6 Tune : Mally Lee]

CHORUS

Puir Saint Nathalan, he hobbled tae the Dee

He locked his airm tae his leg an threw awa the key

He telt the rain tae gang awa because it spoilt the crops

Then he felt ashamed because he'd made the weather stop

He went tae Rome on pilgrimage, he boucht a fish fur tea

And when he cut it open, inside he fund a key

He tried the key in the lock, and it set him free

He cam back tae Tullich and he lived aside the Dee

Puir Saint Nathalan / Happy Saint Nathalan

Puir Saint Nathalan / Happy Saint Nathalan

Puir Saint Nathalan / Happy Saint Nathalan

Puir Saint Nathalan / Happy Saint Nathalan

Happy Saint Nathalan, finally he's free

Helpin and teachin, living joyfully

Livin joyfully, livin joyfully, livin joyfully

Nathalan lived in the 7th Century. His church was called Tulachnathlak [the knoll of Nathalan], but the saint's name was 'dropped' in the 16th Century. In the Dee near the church is Poll-na-hiuchrach [the Pool of the Key].

[by P5/6, Tune : Herrins' Heids]

Whit dae we find bi the bonny Dee?

Whit dae we find bi the bonny Dee?

Gowden eagle flyin free

Aa sorts o things

O aa the rivers that rin tae the sea

Brawest is the bonny Dee

Sing fah lah lah lie doh

Fah lah lah lie doh

Fah lah lah lie doh lie day

Whit dae we find bi the bonny Dee?

Whit dae we find bi the bonny Dee?

Rocks an mountains, hills and trees

Gowden eagle flyin free

Aa sorts o things

O aa the rivers that rin tae the sea

Brawest is the bonny Dee

Sing fah lah lah lie doh

Fah lah lah lie doh

Fah lah lah lie doh lie da

Jaggy Scots Pine an muckle aik tree

A blackburd chasin a buzzy bee

A craw an a speug haein a spree

A rainbow troot tae catch fur tea

A sparklin sun o glamourie

Craigendarroch ower me

Last time

Whit dae we find bi the bonny Dee?

Whit dae we find bi the bonny Dee?

Craigendarroch ower me

Craigendarroch ower me

A sparklin sun o glamourie

A rainbow troot tae catch fur tea

A craw an a speug haein a spre

A blackburd chasin a buzzy bee

Jaggy Scots Pine an muckle aik tree

Rocks an mountains, hills and trees

Gowden eagle flyin free

That's whit we find bi the bonny Dee

Aa sorts o things

O aa the rivers that rin tae the sea

Brawest is the bonny Dee

Sing fah lah lah lie doh

Fah lah lah lie doh

Fah lah lah lie doh lie day
